The Points of Healing on the human body.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an essential component of Asian Medicine that has helped millions of people get well and stay healthy. Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical treatments in the world. Today, acupuncture is complementary medicine along with chiropractic care and massage therapy.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

  • Acupuncture is an energetic medicine where vital energy called Qi (pronounced chee) flows through the body along interconnected pathways.
  • Qi nourishes every cell and organ in the body. Our health is influenced by the quality, quantity, and balance of Qi.
  • When Qi is not flowing and nourishing the body, symptoms develop. Symptoms are the bodies way of saying I need help to get healthy again.
  • Acupuncture treats the primary imbalance in the body that is causing the symptoms. When the primary imbalance is treated, symptoms will get better.
  • Stimulating acupuncture points located on these pathways will clear a blockage, strengthen Qi, and balance Qi. Qi is now able to circulate throughout the body restoring balance and harmony.

Why Try Acupuncture?

  • Acupuncture is a safe, effective, drug-free therapy.
  • Acupuncture activates the natural, self-healing abilities of your body to get well and stay healthy.
  • Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with Western Medicine.
  • Acupuncture provides relief care to alleviate symptoms and speed recovery time. Each visit builds on previous visits with a gradual reduction in symptoms.
  • Acupuncture provides wellness care to further strengthen the body and maintain balance. Preventative treatments keep minor issues from becoming major problems.

What Does An Acupuncturist Do?

  • Alison determines where Qi is blocked or out of balance in the body through a detailed health history, looking at the tongue, feeling the radial pulse on the wrist, and gently palpating the abdomen.
  • The tongue, pulse, and abdomen describe the condition of your body’s Qi, blood, fluids, and temperature. The tongue, pulse, and abdomen also determine where the disharmony is located in the body and the severity of the disharmony.
  • To restore balance and harmony, Alison may insert thin, sterile, disposable needles into acupuncture points or touch acupuncture points without penetrating the skin.
